- World’s First Digital-Block based platform developed for the railway sector -
SEOUL, Korea – Noember 8 – The Korea Railroad Research Institute (KRRI) (President: Sagong Myung) held a launch event for the “Trosar Platform,” developed to support digital transformation across the entire railway industry lifecycle, on December 5 in Conference Room 9 of the National Assembly Members’ Office Building.

A platform designed for railway Digital-Blocks and digital-engineering, developed by KRRI as part of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s national R&D program for railway vehicle component development.
The event was attended by National Assembly Members Hwang Hee and Ahn Do-geol, along with representatives from the Korea Agency for Infrastructure Technology Advancement (KAIA), the Railway Vehicle Component Development Program Office, railway operators, railroad vehicle manufacturers, and component suppliers.
KRRI presented the development process of the Trosar Platform and shared achievements related to Digital-Blocks and digital-engineering technologies. The institute also explained how the launch of Trosar will contribute to accelerating digital innovation across the railway industry.
KRRI has been working to support the railway industry ecosystem through AX transformation initiatives and technologies such as digital twins. Since 2021, the institute has been developing the Trosar Platform under a national R&D program to promote digital transformation among small and medium-sized railway component manufacturers, which often face significant technological and financial challenges.
The Trosar Platform, independently developed by KRRI, is the world’s first application of “Digital-Block” in the railway sector. Based on the independence and interoperability of these Digital-Blocks, the platform enables users to assemble modular blocks to build larger digital systems.
The Trosar Platform provides a foundation for railway companies to efficiently digitalize their products and manufacturing processes. While digital transformation typically requires substantial investment for individual SMEs, the Digital-Block technology within Trosar enables a more efficient digitalization process.
At the event, KRRI showcased a “digital-twin of a railway vehicle door mock-up,” demonstrating a digital-twin developed using Digital-Block technology through the Trosar Platform. With the platform’s integrated “CyberSpace,” even non-experts in companies can create digital twins or virtual environments without incurring significant costs.
Dr. Ohn JungGhun, a Senior Researcher at KRRI and the project’s lead investigator, stated, “The Trosar Platform has been developed as foundational technology for Korea’s digital transformation and holds strong potential for expansion beyond the railway industry into defense, aviation, shipbuilding, healthcare, robotics, and smart factories. It is expected to become a hallmark of Korea’s digital innovation.”
President Sagong Myung of KRRI said, “The launch of the Trosar Platform is expected to improve maintenance efficiency, reduce costs, and strengthen digital innovation across the railway industry while enhancing practical usability in the field. KRRI will continue to play its role in shaping a digitally advanced railway environment.
