COLORADO SPRINGS, USA – November 21 – The Korea Railroad Research Institute (KRRI) (President: Sagong Myung) participated in the 14th World Congress on Railway Research (WCRR 2025) and the 13th International Heavy Haul Association (IHHA 2025), held in Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA, from November 17 to 20. KRRI showcased innovative K-Railway technologies and engaged with overseas railway organizations.
The event, hosted by MxV Rail under the theme “Inspiring Innovative and Resilient Railways,” is the world’s largest international railway research conference, with more than 400 railway industry and research organizations from around the globe participating to discuss innovative technologies and sustainable development in the railway sector.
At the exhibition, KRRI presented representative research achievements, including its digital-twin-based maintenance platform, hydrogen train technology, EUM 5G-R (Private Railway 5G), AI-based maintenance technology, and eco-friendly PSC sleepers* and RC sleepers**.
* Eco-friendly PSC (Prestressed Concrete) sleeper: Manufactured using industrial by-products instead of cement, with added compressive force to enhance durability.
** Eco-friendly RC (Reinforced Concrete) sleeper: Manufactured using industrial by-products instead of cement, reinforced to improve durability.
Through participation in WCRR 2025, KRRI strengthened Korea’s technological standing within the international railway technology network and reaffirmed its global competitiveness in future core fields such as hydrogen trains, 5G communication, and digital twins. KRRI also exchanged the latest railway and public transportation technology trends and advanved technologies with experts worldwide and explored opportunities for expanding K-Railway technologies into global markets.
KRRI also presented three academic papers at WCRR 2025, including “System Design and Dynamic Performance Simulation of a High-Speed Inboard Bogie” by Choi Sung-Hoon, Chief of the Advanced Railroad Vehicle Division, and “Implementation of Gap Control for Virtually Coupled Trains Using 5G Communication” by Senior Researcher Lee Byung-Hoon.
President Sagong Myung of KRRI said, “This was a valuable opportunity to showcase Korea’s innovative, world-class K-Railway technologies to the world and expand our global network. We will continue to pursue railway technology development that satisfies not only domestic users but also global markets, while strengthening our efforts toward overseas expansion.”
